Advanced Dalet

Prerequisite: Dalet at UAB

This course is designed for UAB alumni who have completed Kitah Dalet at UAB. The course focuses on engaging in conversation and writing using high-level Hebrew. We will read poems written by Israel's top poets such as Leah Goldberg and Natan Alterman, as well as one of Shay Agnon’s short novels. In addition, we will read current newspaper articles, watch an Israeli movie, and hold group discussions as well as one-on-one dialogues.

Some of the topics that we will discuss include: dilemmas in modern Israeli society; the role of judaism and religion in modern Israel; women's rights and the gap between men and women today; and the evolution of Hebrew language. You will be exposed to new and high-level of vocabulary from the scientific and legal fields, and will be challenged to write short essays that will push you to increase your vocabulary and refine your grammar.

During the last week of the course, students will be required to take a final exam to test their knowledge. They will be graded on their oral and written work and based on their in-class effort and on the test.
