Who is Aviv
A Lifelong Love of Hebrew
Shalom, I’m Aviv Bertele, and teaching Hebrew isn’t just my profession—it’s my passion and my calling. My journey began in 2001, during a life-changing summer as a counselor for Jewish students from abroad (Young Judaea Year Course). When I was asked to step in for a Hebrew teacher, something clicked. I felt an instant, electric connection—a spark that ignited my love for teaching and set me on a lifelong mission to share the beauty and depth of the Hebrew language.

Before and alongside that journey, I also spent multiple summers (2000–2003, 2007, and 2009) at Camp Tel Yehudah in upstate New York, serving in various roles that deepened my connection to Jewish education, youth leadership, and cultural exchange.

After earning my MA in Middle Eastern Studies and a diploma in Hebrew language editing from Tel Aviv University, I explored the world of journalism, working for Yedioth Acharonot. But my heart was always drawn back to teaching. In 2015, I realized my dream by founding UAB—Ulpan Aviv Bertele. Three years later, I proudly opened the doors to our very own space, a warm and welcoming environment designed with care to inspire learning.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching Hebrew to a diverse group of students—from new immigrants finding their footing in Israel to diplomats preparing for their missions abroad. Each journey is unique, but my goal remains the same: to empower my students to embrace Hebrew and speak it with confidence and joy.

While many see one-on-one tutoring as the ultimate way to learn, I believe the magic truly happens in small, dynamic groups. In these intimate settings, we don’t just learn a language—we dive into thought-provoking discussions that connect us to the soul of Hebrew and Israeli culture.

Teaching is more than just a job for me; it’s how I connect with people, share my culture, and help others feel at home in Hebrew. I’d be honored to be part of your journey, too.

Warmly,
Aviv Bertele
