Service Description

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of D1 at UAB "D2: Proficient Hebrew - Exploring Cultural and Linguistic Depth" hones high-level Hebrew conversational and writing skills. As UAB alumni, you will embark on an intellectual journey through the poetry of revered Israeli poets, including Leah Goldberg and Natan Alterman, and delve into one of Shay Agnon’s intriguing short novels. The course also integrates current newspaper articles and Israeli movies, fostering a robust understanding of modern Israel. Discussion topics will cover modern Israeli society's dilemmas, the role of Judaism and religion in contemporary Israel, the gender gap, women's rights, and the evolution of the Hebrew language. Students will engage with an advanced vocabulary, particularly from scientific and legal fields, and be encouraged to enhance their linguistic prowess through the composition of short essays. A final examination in the course's last week will assess student knowledge. Performance in oral and written work, class participation, and examination results contribute to the final grade. Our comfortable, welcoming Tel Aviv ulpan hosts this course, which includes a bespoke workbook by Aviv Bertele and a class-level tailored vocabulary app.
